Mersin and Adana are actually very important to Turkey especially about industrial production and logistics. This article is about the increasing accessibility of Mersin and you can follow the external link to Cukurova International Airport to Fly to Mersin.

History of travel to Mersin

Normally in terms of roads, motorways, Mersin is very accessible. The D-400 which comes from all the way the East and goes to all the way to the West, goes first through Adana, and gets to Mersin.

Also, the motorway coming from Ankara to the South reaches the region in Yenice and splits East to Adana, and West to Mersin. This way it is possible to get to Mersin from Istanbul (950 km) in under 10 hours with one stop. The new Niğde-Ankara Motorway helps that.

The Sakirpasa, Adana Airport was the only airway to the region for many years. Recently however it felt way short of meeting these two large cities’ needs.

Cukurova International Airport was planned about 14 years ago in 2011, land was obtained, design was made and construction started about 7 years ago. With political opposition from Adana, as their airport was going to be closed with this new airport, our new airport finally started operating in 2024.

After COV opened

After our new airport opened, to fly to Mersin became much more convenient. Firstly all the domestic flights started, then the most common international flights from Germany. There are flights from Beirut, Cyprus and Moscow too.

In time more flights will be coming to Mersin from Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Currently, if your city is not on the list, you can fly to Mersin via Istanbul easily.

Airport’s effect to land values in the area

Accessibility makes location more desirable. Especially on the Mediterranean Coast of Mersin there are many virgin towns and available agricultural land with planning potential. Also existing homes, businesses will be wanted by more people as accessibility becomes easier.

In Narlikuyu lowest land prices were about 100 TL/m2 before the airport opened. Now, the lowest prices are from 250-300 TL/m2. In USD, before the airport opened per sqm prices were about $4 per sqm, and after it is about $6.50-7.90 per sqm.
